  • Recognize the value of different types of sources for your research.
  • Know how to judge the reliability of a source.
  • Learn to consider and select appropriate search tools for your research.

Activity 1: Types of Sources

1. Open and skim the 4 resources below.

2. With a partner, or on your own, answer the reflection questions in the leafy Padlet below.

Reflection Questions:

  • Which source(s) do you trust more and why?
  • How would you use these sources in a paper (if you would use any of them)?
  • Which one was written by an expert?

Activity 2: Reliable Sources

  1. Alone or with a friend or two, think about what makes a source reliable.
  2. Jot down your ideas and be prepared to share.

Activity 3: Types of Search Tools

  1. In groups of 4, search for the same keyword. One person should search in ChatGPT, one in Google, one in Google Scholar, and one person should search LibrarySearch.
  2. Compare and contrast the results across search platforms. Think about if any are more trustworthy or useful than others.
  3. Add your group's notes under each search tool in the Padlet.
