You will:
- Recognize the value of different types of sources for your research.
- Know know to judge the reliability of a source.
- Learn to consider and select appropriate search tools for your research.
Activity 1: Types of Sources
1. Skim the 4 resources below.
2. With a partner, or on your own, answer the reflection questions in the Padlet.
Reflection Questions:
- Which source(s) do you trust more and why?
- How would you use these in a paper (if you would use any of them)?
- Which one was written by an expert?
Activity 2: Reliable Sources
- Alone or with a friend or two, think about what makes a source reliable.
- Post your ideas to the Padlet.
Activity 3: Types of Search Tools
- In groups of 4, search for the a historic Black movement. Two people should search in Black Studies Collection, one in Google, and one in LibrarySearch.
- Compare and contrast the results across search platforms. Think about if any are more trustworthy or useful than others.
- Add your group's notes under each search tool in the Padlet.
